PROJECT

Backbone Trail FRP Bridge

PROJECT OVERVIEW

In the summer of 2022 Areté Structures designed, fabricated, and delivered a forty foot by six-foot long FRP Truss Bridge to the National Park Service in California. The bridge is located on the Backbone Trail in the Upper Zuma Canyon part of the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area. The installation crew used an access road to get materials most of the way to the site, carrying them only a few hundred feet. Some of the longer pieces the crew had to carry about 3 quarters of a mile. The lightweight of the FRP material made this process easier than it would have been if the customer had chosen to build the bridge out of wood or steel.
